Depression

Depression is one of the most common phenomena in the Western world today. It can be found within the lower social classes as well as the higher ones- the “elite” society.

Many people suffer from depression without being aware of their condition. obviously, they also weren’t diagnosed professionally.

Others who were diagnosed are treated with medications that help them to moderate the strength of the depression. However, medication alone cannot replace therapy that helps to heal the depression itself.

Many people are used to live with depression that it doesn’t cross their mind that they don’t have to live this way: “dragging” their lives and “surviving” instead of enjoying and celebrating their lives. Sometimes the depression is inherited; their entire family is depressive to some extent, and this is the reason it appears natural to them to experience life in a depressive way.

In order for someone to go to therapy something within has to start to rebel against this situation and to aspire to create a better condition along with the assumption that one does have a chance to lead a better, easier going and a happier life.

Some people come to Tami Yaari to receive therapy for their chronicle fatigue, general feeling of “being stuck” in one place, or a physical illness, when in fact one of their main problems is depression.

Depression has many physical and emotional parallel phenomenons such as dejection, hopelessness, lack of interest, lack of energy, difficulty in self fulfillment, sadness, introversion, lack of motivation and more.

There are many very different reasons for the formation of depression, and in order to solve the problem, we must first diagnose the source/s and according to that to outline an appropriate treatment.

The way in which Tami Yaari works, her diagnosis and treatment, refers to the current life system, from the moment of birth (sometimes even from the pregnancy period) until the present day. This includes reference to the family in which one grew the different relationships in one’s life, one’s professional choices, energetic state and everything that affects it, one’s personality structure and so on. Moreover, the diagnosis also includes reference to the depressive inclination of one’s soul, if there are any, and reference to the broad history of one’s past lives, in order to detect each and every depression source and to treat it accordingly.

In any case, in order to change one’s condition, in addition to Tami Yaari’s profound work in the different layers of the unconscious, the patient must be cooperative and must take an active part in the healing process. Participation can be expressed in the readiness to change one’s perceptions and inner attitudes, a change in one’s life style, readiness to deal with different relationships in one’s life and more.

Today, more than ever, there is an inner call from the depths of one’s soul to extract the most out of life; each one of us must lead a meaningful life that will be the expression of our essence and the expression of our personal development; a life of liberty and of self-fulfillment. If, due to a certain reason, inner or outer, this does not happen we might experience depression; suppression, from inside or outside of the connection to life is expressed through depression.

In this sense, depression is the correct and smartest reaction of our emotional and physical systems that announce that something in our life is conducted in an abnormal way. In other words, this is a essential invitation to make changes and corrections to our lives.

The personal demand for self-fulfillment, self development, meaning and managing a life that will fulfill and will make us happy, can be seen as a demand that indicates the New Age; this personal demand, relatively to the history of man kind, is quite new. If in the past we were satisfied with filling out most basic and physical needs (food, lodging), today this personal demand needs more than that. If, in the past, being a part of ideological groups (religions, cults, social groups etc…) was enough for our development, today this alone is no where near enough. The souls’ demand is for discovery, choosing and spiritual fulfilling in the most personal way (possible), and not from the place of surrender and automatic identification with any ideology.

The striving for an everyday experience of a happy body and soul, full of energy and satisfaction, should be first on our priorities list. The right thing to do whenever we suffer from any extent of depression is to examine our lives from the beginning and to make any changes that might be needed in order to fix this situation. It must be kept in mind that apart from taking responsibility for our own happiness, there is always room for consultation and treatment with Tami Yaari in order to receive a deep support, and further tools and strength to make the needed changes.

Dana, 34 years old, came to see Tami Yaari when she was in a very confused state and with a general feeling of lack of extraction of her life. Her eyes looked depressive, hidden and scared. To Dana, life seemed as a big, tall wall, as something that was way bigger than her. She was never really sure: what she was worth, what she wants and even at times when she did know what she wanted to do, she didn’t believe she was capable of doing it. She looked at everyone as being smarter, prettier, and more talented than her. She couldn’t come up with a clear reason as to why she was living and for what. Indeed, she had a boyfriend of which she wasn’t sure…especially since her family said to her a few things about him and their relationship that undermined her sense of security about him.

Tami and Dana started working together. The diagnosis and treatment included reference to the conscious and unconscious components of Dana, to her family’s history, to her childhood that shaped her low self esteem, and also reference to the broad history and to her souls’ inclinations.

It was obvious that in this stage Dana has to learn to acknowledge herself: her abilities, her rights, her legitimacy to live, and to create her own way like all of us. She needed to learn how to evaluate the quality of the central relationships in her life, including her family relationships that shaped her life, and to learn to make new choices: who to listen to, and who should have the privilege to affect her.

Dana had a session meeting with Tami Yaari once every few weeks, and from time to time she surprised in her ability to go through inner and outer changes: even her appearance improved- she looked prettier, more alive and more pampered; as any person who acknowledges their own existence and beauty would look like. Additionally, Dana started studying in a university. In the past she was made to believe she was stupid and unable to succeed. Her mother used to tell her: “you don’t understand anything”. Over the years Dana internalized this. Tami Yaari negated completely Dana’s “stupidity” and argued that she has no intellectual problem. Indeed, Dana turned into an excellent student. This, of course, shocked her self-perception, just like the awakening of the Ugly Duckling; “Is it possible that I am a swan?” Surprisingly, a lot of inner strength is needed to accept this new fact. Dana also stopped paying attention to comments that made her doubt her partner. Now the energy was directed into improving the relationship rather than questioning it all the time.

No one would have considered anymore that Dana might be suffering from depression. She took the full responsibility over her innermost patterns that created a suppressing and a depressing life system. What Dana received from Tami is an exact and a real mirror of her condition, new tools to examine herself and her reality and power for self strengthening, and for standing tall against anyone that will try to undermine her again. The treatment included dealing with a few traumas from the past that left an inner scar and continued to rob energy from her and to hold back her self-loving and her development.

Like many success stories of overcoming depression, the process of change is a multi-layered one which demands the active cooperation of the patient. Furthermore, readiness for a change in the self perception is needed as well as a new understanding of the relationships in our lives and changing them if needed. Also, readiness to face traumas from the past is needed in order to treat and release them. And, readiness for daring to start a new road.

Today, Dana is a happy woman that is capable of dealing with life’s challenges, and is capable of aspiring to realize more and more dreams. The process Dana went through created a huge satisfaction; the happiness of a person who overcame depression, is nothing like the happiness of a person who never suffered from it.
